Identity means who you are. It is what makes you.
Knowing who you are in Christ is very important. If you don't know who you are, you may believe wrong things about yourself. You may let other people, your feelings, or your mistakes tell you who you are. But God wants His Word to tell you who you are.
When we believe in Jesus and are born again, we receive a new identity. We become God's children.
The Bible says, "That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit." (John 3:6)
Think about it! Children usually look like their parents. In the same way, because we are born of God's Spirit, we are like our Heavenly Father.
God is holy, so we are holy.
God is righteous, so we are righteous in Christ.
God is loving, so we can love others.
God is kind, so we can be kind.
God is truthful, so we should always tell the truth.
We don't do these things to become God's children. We do them because we already are God's children.
When you know who you are, you will make better choices. You will speak, think, and act like a child of God.
